The Polyterasse is located between ETH and University and offers top views over Zurich’s old town.

To get there, you have to take a short ride with the nostalgic Polybahn funicular from Central. The pictures below, will help you to locate the funicular easier. Since opening in 1889, the Polybahn has carried over two million passengers annually to the Polyterrasse. The lines are exactly the same as during the repairs in 1889 and a historical memento of a pioneering achievement of the late 19th century.

Before enjoying the views, have a look at the imposing building on your left. That’s ETH (Federal Institute of Technology) build in 1864 and attended nowadays by over 22,000 students from over 120 countries. In the 2021 edition of the QS World University Rankings, ETH Zurich is ranked 6th the best university in the world. ETH Zurich has achieved its reputation particularly in the fields of chemistry, mathematics, and physics. There are 32 Nobel laureates who are associated with ETH Zurich, Albert Einstein is perhaps its most famous alumnus.
